Review of NVSU Programmes

 

External Review of the cluster of educational programmes 050100.62 “Pedagogical Education” (profile “Foreign Language”), 13.00.01 “General Pedagogics, History of Pedagogics and Education” was held from December 16 till December 18, 2013 in Nizhnevartovsk State University in Nizhnevartovsk, Russia.

External review panel consisted of three Russian and one foreign expert and an observer:

Milan Pol – PhD in Pedagogics, Deputy Dean on Science and Doctoral Programmes of the Faculty of Philosophy, Head of the Institute of Educational Sciences, member of the Attestation Commission of Slovakia, Expert of the European Commission of European Council, Masaryk University (Czech Republic);

Kuznetsova Tatiana – Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Director of the Centre of Linguistic Education, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Honoured worker of higher education of the Russian Federation;

Petrovskiy Fedor – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Rector of Khanty-Mansiysk State Medical Academy, member of the Executive Committee of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia;

Nartokova Inna – 5th year student in “Economics and Management (Oil and Gas)” of the Branch of South-Ural State University in Nizhnevartovsk;

Zima Elena – Candidate of Technical Sciences, Assistant Professor, Director of the Scientific and Methodological Centre of Novosibirsk State Technical University.

Meetings with the university administration, heads of departments, people responsible for programmes' implementation, teaching staff, students, post-graduates, representatives of professional community and graduates were organized within the 3-day work of the external review panel.

At the meetings with NVSU administration the issues of quality assurance implementation, regional and national requirements for quality assurance, systematization of modern technologies of learning foreign languages, motivation of students for self-education and research work were discussed.

During the meetings with the Heads of Departments the information on strengths and prospects of the educational programmes undergoing accreditation, on the process of educational programmes’ development, on the organization of academic and scientific work of the departments and on educational work of students was obtained and analyzed. Besides, the participants of the meeting discussed the implementation of research activities at the department,  the problems of management, the mechanisms of educational programmes revision and the level of consistency of the educational programmes of the HEI with the similar programmes in Russian and foreign universities.

Meeting with the teaching staff was aimed at discussing of the issues connected with the implementation of the educational programmes, carrying out scientific research and academic mobility of teaching staff as well as at considering the problems of material, information and financial support of teaching process, the effectiveness of the system of evaluation of the academic progress and competencies of students and post-graduates.

Meeting with the representatives of employers was dedicated to the strengths and weaknesses of the educational programmes under review and to the issues of graduates’ competencies and employability. The participants of the meeting considered problems of the interaction and cooperation with the educational organizations on management, consistency of the contents of educational programmes and evaluation of the quality of these programmes.

On the meeting with the representatives of student community the students expressed their opinions on the prospects of the programmes' development, the role of students’ independent work in educational process, the academic load, the level of student activity in scientific studies, proficiency of the teaching staff, material support of the educational institution for programmes’ implementation and the effectiveness of the feedback to the teaching staff and university administration.

The discussion with post-graduates allowed to get an idea of the consistency and continuity of learning levels and the role of research work at each level of education, as well as of the quality and availability of material and technical resources of the educational institution for carrying out scientific studies.

The final meeting with NVSU representatives was organized on December 18. The external review panel pointed out good practices and areas for improvement of the educational programmes.

The reports and recommendations on the further programmes development will be prepared according to the results of the external review. The decision on accrediting the educational programmes will be made on the meeting of the National Accreditation Board in 2014.
