Announcement of the position


The reform of external quality assurance in Austrian Higher Education, based on the Federal Act of Quality Assurance (Hochschul-Qualitätssicherungsgesetz – HS-QSG), entails the establishment of the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria, based in Vienna. The tasks of the Agency include the development and the management of external quality assurance procedures in accordance with national and international standards.

The permanent positions of managing director (M/F) and deputy managing director (M/F) are to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • General management of the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (management of human resources, financial management, project management) in consultation with the President of the Board
  • Providing support to the Agency’s Committees in accomplishing their tasks
  • Overseeing the development and management of quality assurance procedures for Public Universities, Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen) and Private Universities in consultation with the Board of the Agency
  • Management of the Agency's operational areas: Audits of Public Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences; Accreditation and oversight of Universities of Applied Sciences and their study programmes, Accreditation and oversight of Private Universities and their study programmes; Studies and analysis; Evaluation; Information and advice; International audits and accreditation
  • Co-operation with the relevant stakeholders in higher education and representation of the Agency in relevant committees

Person specification:

  • Competence and experience in establishing and managing professional organisations; preferably also experience in organisational development
  • Knowledge and experience in business administration, experience in human resource management
  • Sound knowledge of Austrian higher education in all sectors and knowledge of international higher education as well as current national and international developments in higher education policy (Bologna, etc.)
  • Sound knowledge and experience of quality development and external quality assurance in Austrian and international higher education
  • International experience; applicants should be native speakers of German or an equivalent level of fluency, excellent command of English, additional foreign languages are desirable.
  • Effective team working and communication skills
  • Higher education degree qualification

In accordance with § 11c of the Federal Act of Equal Treatment (Bundes-Gleichbehandlungsgesetz), female applicants demonstrating equivalent experience and ability to male applicants will be given priority in the appointment process.


The publication and selection of the positions is done in accordance with Stellenbesetzungsgesetz, BGBl. I Nr. 26/1998. In accordance with § 10 HS-QSG (Hochschul-Qualitätssicherungsgesetz) an employee of the Agency may not be a member of any of the Agency’s Committees.
